Sarah Yehudit's Weekly Classes

DURING THE CORONA LOCK-DOWN (AT LEAST THROUGH JUNE) ALL OF SARAH YEHUDIT’S CLASSES WILL BE ON ZOOM:

This makes them available to folks overseas.  The times and subjects are as presented below, but the address of them all is cyberspace.  If you are interested in joining any of these classes (which have expended greatly since the pandemic) email the organizer of the class listed in that entry.

These classes are recorded and available as mp3 files for individuals who want to join but their schedule does not permit them to participate in person.

SUNDAYS:

Weekly Classes

Zohar, Page by Page. The Zohar is the central work of Kabbalah. It is actually comprised of several works, the most well-known being a mystical commentary on the Torah’s five Books.

Sundays: 12:30 PM – 1:45 PM EST   ||  9:30 – 10:45 PST   ||   5:30 – 6:415 England Time ||  7:30 – 8:45 PM Jerusalem Time

Contact person: Charna Rosenholtz – [email protected]

The Zohar Class started in 2008.  We are moving through the Zohar page by page.  We are using R. Yehuda Edri’s Hebrew translation of the Aramaic Zohar as our text (which Sarah Yehudit provides). Students have their own English translations as well. (Sarah Yehudit will provide Soncino’s English translation upon request). Hebrew fluency is not required for the class. All Hebrew is translated and the discussions are in English. Sarah Yehudit prepares the text with a variety of commentaries but draws primarily from Zohar Chai and Demesek Eliezer (from the Komarna school of interpretation).

The class is via teleconference.  Students phone in from throughout the world.  The teleconference hub is a US number.  Folks from overseas use Skype-out (or a phone service of that sort) to call in at negligible expense.

The students are quite diverse and represent the full range of denominations, non-denominations, and post-denominations.  Their common bond is a shared passion for the depth and beauty of our wisdom tradition. The class was originally open to both men and women, but only women have attended for several years now.

The class is recorded and those sound files are available for anyone wishing to study a particular passage, or to follow the class from its beginning.  To purchase archives of this class, or to follow it in the present, click HERE.

Weekly Classes

Prayer and Destiny  explores the mystery of prayer and how it is a potent tool for personal growth and change.  It examines the difference between prayer versus visualization and affirmation and how the latter can be incorporated into the prayer process . The course focuses on personal prayer but its instructions can readily be incorporated into liturgy.

This kabbalistic method of prayer is a most powerful tool for refining will. And that is the primary work of a spiritual path.

Sundays: 11:00 AM – 12:15 PM EST   ||  8:00 – 9:15 PST   ||   4:00 – 5:15 England Time ||  6:00 – 7:15 PM Jerusalem Time

Contact person: Abby Rosen – [email protected]

The class is comprised of mature professionals—skilled and practiced meditators—whose knowledge and observance of Judaism runs the gamut.

The class is via teleconference.  Students phone in from throughout the world. The teleconference hub is a US number.  Folks from overseas use Skype-out (or a phone service of that sort) to call in at negligible expense.

The class is open to both men and women.

Spring/Summer Session, 2020

Sarah Yehudit is in the midst of a writing project and so is trying to limit the preparation time required for her usual variety of classes.  In this winter session she will be teaching the same material in both her Tuesday and Thursday class.  Meditation Monday will continue as scheduled.

Mondays:

Weekly Classes

Meditation Monday: Group meditation for women only. Schedule is as follows:
Doors open at 8:00 AM.  We start 8:30 AM on the button:

7 min instruction

Weekly Classes

You Are What You Hate, A Spiritually Productive Approach to Enemies: This class is based on the Komarna Rebbes teachings and texts which form the basis of Sarah Yehudit’s book of this title.  The question explored is: What is the most good-serving, God-serving (and also, surprisingly, self-serving) response to the test of enemies and how can I use their vexation for positive change?

A truly enlightened strategy requires us to find the right balance between self-protection and generosity, protest and acceptance, savvy and idealism, zero-tolerance-for-evil and compassion.

Thursday: 3:00 – 4:30 PM

Place: Lurie home in Old Katamon | 14 HaGadna St. (through front door and up to 3rd floor). Newcomers and visitors are welcome.  30 shekels per class (or whatever you can afford) Contact person: Anne Seham – [email protected]

This is an advanced group of students (in Torah knowledge, professional accomplishment and life experience). The group has been learning together since 2008.
